Span Brace Kneel
Three light boxes, detail shots from three local bridges— the Tilikum, St. John's, and Fremont— the black di-plate process is taken to new heights. This updated version of the classic glass plate process involves spraying coats of black enamel paint onto the surface of the plexiglass on both the front and back, and then laser etching a positive onto one side and the negative onto the other. The technique gives the plate the sense of being both in and out of focus floating in a liminal space between airiness and extreme weight, just as the bridge forms themselves suggest.
