Facsimile: of the Artist
While my more photographic work focuses on bringing all
aspects of an experience to light, Facsimile focuses on
the things that are the byproducts of our experiences and
actions. Much of the piece is left obscured to the viewer for
they are only allowed to see the outline or the fringes of the
experience that was catalogued.
This is the physical manifestation of byproducts of primal
and digital light production. Spent wax from burning
candles preserves the particulate evidence of that actions
in a space where it was burned, just as binary registers the
finite detail of what was captured from the life of that light.
I used the laser to cut out the stackable components of the six-foot column comprised of 375 slotted MDF tines and spacers that house wax and acrylic discs which swivel in and out of alignment with each other.
