Incendiary Devices
This triptych of “black” glass plates is only piece I have
done about my parents' divorce. It is an atypical situation
that has yet to be resolved. The silver gelatin “black” plate
or di-plate technique is one that I developed specifically for
this series, and embodies the reality of how I see the
situation. The three glass plates each have the positive and
the negative of their image on them, and live in individual
converted shadowbox frames that I transformed into light
boxes with the addition of my own LED wiring.
When you look at the plates in the dark shadow box, you
can only get the sense of the silhouetted objects, unable to
discern their entirety, but when you illuminate it you can
see the intricate detail of the objects and the complexity of
the situation beyond the simple form from when they were
dark.
