Inscription Transcription, talks about the physicality of writing— the medium, substrate, smell, look, feel, and sound of this system of dialog and documentation.
The series features a group of three objects— an ink soaked book, a graphite rubbed legal notepad, and chalk coated slate school-board. The disorienting lack of writing on the objects smothered in material is reinforced by digital recordings of the disembodied sound of the act of writing on those very objects, softly playing from under the little pedestals they sit on. In this case, the digital element was a literal audio translation of the artist’s hand but ultimately leaves the pieces feeling cold.
